Nous recommandons le passage à Thunderbird 0.9.
(attention : quelques précautions doivent être prises si vous mettez à jour une version précédente de thunderbird)

En outre, nous conseillons de décocher l'option "Display Attachments Inline" du menu principal "View" de thunderbird (ou l'équivallent dans d'autres langues) afin que la gestion des pièces attachées (pièces annexes, attachments, fichiers attachés, documents non sollicités, etc) restent complètement sous le contrôle de l'utilisateur, même si ceci doit lui demander, parfois, un petit "clic" supplémentaire. Considérer l'utilisateur comme un semi-débile robotisé ne fait pas partie de la philosophie de notre site.

Des visiteurs nous demandent si ils existent, alors, sous thunderbird, des outils pour gérer facilement les fichiers annexés aux messages.
Thunderbird gère, en effet, ceux-ci de manière différente par rapport à d'autres produits sérieux, par exemple, le logiciel propriétaire eudora, par ailleurs excellent (du moins dans sa version professionnelle, payante, et lorsque les caractéristiques dites 'ésotériques' ont été rendues accessibles).
Il n'est, par ailleurs, pas dans nos intentions d'évoquer les logiciels pas sérieux ou dangereux.

La solution est fournie par l'extension ci-dessous. Actuellement, son usage se fait exclusivement en anglais mais il est heureusement simple, des mots comme "save", "delete" ou "zap" étant faciles à comprendre, même pour un francophone pointu...

Il s'agit d'une sélection d'extensions utiles pour protéger la vie privée ou, plus généralement, pour encourager un usage intelligent d'internet. Comme nous sommes en relation directe avec plusieurs développeurs, il arrive que certaines des extensions déjà présentes sur notre 'miroir'... ne se trouvent pas encore sur le site officiel de http://update.mozillaorg/ , ou sont plus récentes que celles qui s'y trouvent; mais, attention!, l'inverse pourrait se produire également, soyez donc attentif à la version, la date, etc. Quelques uns des 26 fichiers présents sont également spécifiques à Windows, Mac OS (Darwin), à des versions anciennes de thunderbird, etc... mais tout est indiqué clairement par le nom de chaque fichier.

Once the extension is installed, and TB restarted, you will have the following :
A new menu option is available under file -- 'Import Saved Message'
    * allows one take a 'saved' message (a file with a .eml extension ) and make it a 'real' message
    * Please Note : that menu option is only available when a folder is selected
          o ( so .. does not appear if the account screen is active ).
Three new menu options are available under tools :
    * 'Delete All Attachments'
          o this will delete all attachments in the selected message ( one message only )
          o Please Note : that menu option is only available when a message with attachments is selected.
    * 'ZAP All Attachments'
          o this will leave the message with NO TRACE of any attachments -- except text and rfc822
          o Please Note : that menu option is only available when a message with attachments is selected.
    * 'Detach when Deleting or Zapping'
          o this is a toggle, when it is checked, attachments you delete or zap will be saved to the folder you choose.
          o Please Note : that menu option is only available when a message with attachments is selected.
Six new popup menu options are available if you right click the attachment pane:
    * 'Delete Attachment(s)' - allows the user to delete one or many attachments
          o hold ctrl and select attachments in the attachment box then right click n choose 'Delete Attachment(s)'
          o obviously one message at a time
    * 'ZAP Attachment(s)' - allows the user to ZAP one or many attachments
          o hold ctrl and select attachments in the attachment box then right click n choose 'ZAP Attachment(s)'
          o obviously one message at a time
    * 'Delete All Attachments' - which has the same functionality as the menu option
    * 'ZAP all attachments' - this will leave the message with NO TRACE of any attachments -- except text and rfc822
          o right click attachment box n choose 'ZAP All Attachments'
    * 'Detach when Deleting or Zapping' - which has the same function as the menu option
          o this is a toggle, when it is checked, attachments you delete or zap will be saved to the folder you choose.
    * 'Import Attached EML into this Folder' - this will make a message attachment as a real message.
          o only works when the selected attachment (one) is a rfc822 attachment

PLEASE NOTE:
    * The Preview pane MUST be enabled for this extension to work
    * This extension WILL function correctly on remote message stores ( like IMAP )
          o AND: the 'Import EML File...' and 'Import Attached EML...' functions will work with IMAP
   1. in ALL cases above (except for creation of a new message), a copy of the original message is in the trash folder ( of the active account )
   2. there are many prefs you can set. ( in the tools..options..extensions..AttachmentTools..settings )
   3. I will not go into them here, send a comment if you have a query regarding the prefs.
This is a VERSION 0.4.8 and should NOT be used in serious environments (you have been warned)
